K Custom Dry Light Ride?

This is exciting for me, too. I mean, Joe Correro: What are the chances these days of someone knowing his name, and, more importantly, really appreciating him?And being influenced by him? Honestly, like you, I've gone for his feel and sound for years. And yes, I agree with you, he's every bit as important as, say, Vinnie or Dave. To me, Joe Correro is kind of a Dave Mattacks of the drum world: Infinitely tasteful, capable of great power and unique chops, yet totally unsung.
With regard to Jarreau albums, I have two CDs, both purchased at Amazon. One is a combination of two albums and entitled Look to the Rainbow....contains lots of live material with the drums buried in the mix (but still audible to the afficianado!). It has your "Take Five" on it, plus "Letter Perfect", "One Good Turn", "So Long Girl", and "We Got By" to name a few tracks. The other CD I have, and my personal favorite (the drum mix is murderous), is All Fly Home. It contains tracks such as "Thinkin' About It Too", "Brite N Sunny Babe", "Fly", "She's Leaving Home" and ends with a jam version of "Sittin' On the Dock of the Bay". Freddie Hubbard makes a couple of cameo appearances on the CD and blows some of the nicest solos he's done since Art Blakey. Maybe one of your CDs contains this material: You're from London, I believe, so the release titles often vary from ours in America.

Hello Guys,

there was a guy on cymbalholic.com who found out that Joe Correro was playing an old 20" Istanbul on the Al Jarreau Recording "Look To The Rainbow" (that I love too!!). He sent a clip of that record to Tony Costello from cymbalsonly.com who helped him to get a cymbal that sounded like Joe's. It ended up whith a 20" Istanbul Agop Signature Ride. There was another user on cymbalholic.com who knows Joe personally. Unfortunately the database for recent posts is down, so that the thread isn't available at the moment.

Thanks Doeni. Man, I could have sworn it was a 22" cymbal, but there you go! Appreciate your input. I don't know much about new Istanbul cymbals but Bosporus makes a few that'd handle the call....as well as some of the Sabian HHX, such as the ride Billy Kilson uses. Of course, there's always the Zildjian K. Constantinople thin-high (to cover the slightly higher wash that Correro gets, especially evident on the CD All Fly Home). Thanks again.

I should chime in here.

I Love my K custon dry light. I use it on rock and jazz/fusion stuff. It is incredibly versatile and effective. It's dry but not too dry. It swings hard, isn't too washy, and cuts through amps. I've used it for a while now and was at Zildjian recently trying out a bunch of others. Nothing beats it for me these days.

Yup... while I was still working for a Music Store, we were selling Zildjian Cymbals exclusively and I've tried some of the Cymbals we have in stock (of course, we should know what to recommend to customers)...

If I were to have my own Ride, I'd love to have a K Custom Dry Light Ride [img]tongue.gif[/img] I like it a lot, it would be my first choice of a Ride cymbal [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img]
